Yee Haw. Griz delivered this weekend with ample snow for everyone who showed up. Saturday was spent terrorizing Snake Ridge for the most part of the day where the snow was easily knee deep. While the upper traverse was still closed for avalanche concerns, a well tracked, albeit slightly uphill trail (keeping the snowboarders at bay) made for some rather uncrowded freshies in the sun.
Crowds on Saturday were rather extreme at first, reminding me of Castle a month ago, but at 11:30 somebody flicked a switch and everyone vanished. After that it was pretty much ski right onto the lifts on the old side. While I'm not complaining, I kind of wonder where everyone went.
Sunday was a very different day to Saturday. It started snowing sometime before I got up and didn't stop all day. The mountain was deserted and the snow just kept accumulating covering any hint of hardpack that may have been lingering from the past week. It was a day that I hadn't had in a long time. Ah the good ole days when you ripped Boomerang all day long and never got tired of it.
Best runs on Sunday were through the Saddles where we lucked out and got second, third and fourth tracks through the main saddle. Deep and smooth. We lucked out a second time, getting back before the ski patrol shut them down for the day. Didn't matter though as the snow in Linda's, Boomerang, Easter and Cedar Bowl was all stellar. Punched and beaten from two hard days of skiing I left the mountain at around 2:00 in the afternoon and dropped down into the valley where the snow had begun to turn to rain. Temperatures are supposed to climb into the double digits for the next few days with sunshine so the rain soaked snow will probably turn to spring time slush and corn. Better than boiler plate in my books.
