Grooomed Perfection

The sky is full of snowy clouds, teasing Fernie residents with a few flakes here and there….. but this doesn’t stop Kirk: snowboarder by day. designer by night. After having missed the 50cm of new snow this week because of a cold, he woke up bright and early to tackle the new and improved base and check out the current conditions on the slopes at Fernie Alpine Resort. Expecting just mediocre riding, he is happily surprised when the groomers prove to be soft and fast to ride. The improvements in grooming at FAR are obvious! Kirk takes advantage of these conditions and rides hard to cover as many runs and as much of the mountain as possible…a new experience as powder has dominated the many adventures of Kirk, the snowboarder, this year.

While caught up in the excitement of the morning and contemplating the next run, Kirk catches a blocked off area beneath the White Pass chair….is it possible the base is that high? The area is marked off as it is just a few feet from the chair lift! No lift line skiing here!! On the opposite side of the mountain Boomerang Chair is experiencing a similar occurrence and FAR staff work away at flattening the base in areas to allow the chair to pass by safely. Although Kirk knew of the deep and unparalleled base at FAR, today it resonated.  There are still 2 months left of the ski season, plenty of time for more snow to fall on this solid base.

On his way back to the office, before slipping into his “designer” persona, Kirk makes a private request to the Griz, the local Powder Legend, for more champagne powder. With Griz Days coming up soon, more snow is very likely!
